A stage version of Dead Poets Society has sold out every performance at Lisbon’s Teatro da Trindade for eight months in a row, Euronews reports. It was meant to close in August, but two extensions have pushed the run to 20 December.

Director Hélder Gamboa puts its success down to nostalgia and to Tom Schulman’s script, with grandparents and parents bringing younger family members to discover the story. Diogo Infante plays the inspiring teacher John Keating, Virgílio Castelo is headmaster Gale Nolan, and 23-year-old Rui Pedro Silva leads a cast of eight young actors from drama schools as Neil Perry.

The production goes on tour around Portugal from January 2027, and its 16 shows at the Teatro Sá da Bandeira in Porto have already sold out.
