Nigerian dancer Benjamin Daniel, known as Ben Dancer, has danced for 176 hours, 52 minutes and 59 seconds at Freedom Park in Lagos, Africanews reports.

The marathon ran from 22 to 29 September and comfortably passed the current Guinness World Record of 127 hours, set in 2023. Guinness has yet to confirm whether the attempt will be ratified.

Daniel had been preparing since 2022 with strength, endurance and sleep training. Over the week he moved through Afrobeats, fuji, jazz and zouk, at times wearing traditional Nigerian dress, and a doctor on site reported no major health complaints.

He said the goal was never just the record, but to draw global attention to Africa’s indigenous dances, and to encourage people everywhere to look more closely at the continent’s traditional dance and music.
