Since May, a 30-year-old from Seoul has been turning up at apartment playgrounds and parks with buckets and brushes, and leaving them spotless. The Korea Herald reports that Cho Hee-jae, who runs a small property business, has made a hobby of cleaning public play equipment across the capital and northern Gyeonggi Province.

He looks for likely sites on a map app, asks the building manager for permission, then spends 30 to 40 minutes on each slide, seesaw or railing. He gets through about ten sites a month and covers the costs himself, roughly 400,000 won (about $290) for fuel and supplies. Because children will be climbing over everything, he uses environmentally friendly cleaners.

Cho says his one-year-old niece was part of the inspiration. He posts the results online under the name “public cleanup lab”, and at least three people who saw them have started cleaning their own neighbourhoods. His target is 100 sites. “Even if nobody uses it, it still looks better when it’s clean,” he said.
